We’re all Shipwrecks

From Wooden Heart by Listener:

because our church is made out of shipwrecks
from every hull these rocks have claimed
but we pick ourselves up, and try and grow better through the change
so come on y’all and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
come on and sew us together, were just tattered rags stained forever
we only have what we remember

If you have never heard Listener you should. Their stuff is all about everyday people and everyday relationships. The quote above is from the title track to their new album “Wooden Heart.” According to an interview with Dan Smith, the vocalist of Listener, the song is about:

how we’re all a big and small family and community pieced together of shipwrecked parts and bits….all of us on our own voyages and wrecked in one way or another in different cities and places in life, and we come together all just pieces to form a whole….and the album is pretty much about that too.
